Twitter launches premium service, introduces gold-colored check mark

The company owned by billionaire Elon Musk also introduced a golden checkmark for business brands on Twitter.

NEW YORK: Social media app Twitter, in a bid to encourage users to buy subscriptions to its ticker, is launching its premium service again after an earlier attempt failed last month.

The social media platform informed that this application allows users to purchase a Twitter Blue subscription to get a blue sign and access special features.

In the meantime, the company owned by billionaire Elon Musk also introduced a golden checkmark for business brands on Twitter.

Gold labels appear on account profiles for Coca-Cola, Nike, Google and dozens of other mega-corporations.

‘A gold check mark indicates that the account is an official business account through Twitter Blue for Business,’ Twitter said on its support website.

Twitter’s blue mark was previously awarded to companies, celebrities, government entities and journalists verified by the platform.

After Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion (RM191.73 billion) in October, he launched a service giving blue checks to anyone willing to pay US$8 (RM35) a month.

However, there were several fake accounts impersonating the company Nintendo, the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and more forcing Twitter to suspend the service again after the launch day.
