Twitter forms a Content Moderation Council, no major decisions before the council – Elon Musk
WASHINGTON: The social media company Twitter will form a special moderation council for the platform as part of the improvement measures taken by billionaire buyer Elon Musk.
The technology entrepreneur on Friday however said there would be no decision on the content or reinstatement of the account until the council convened.
“Twitter will form a content moderation council with diverse viewpoints,” Sputnik quoted Musk as saying via social media.
On Thursday, Musk finalized a deal to acquire Twitter worth US$44 billion after negotiations began in April. The acquisition was however delayed after Musk became concerned about the number of fake accounts on the platform.
Musk pledged to increase protections for free speech on Twitter as part of the acquisition of the platform. Earlier this year Musk said he was ready to overturn Twitter’s ban on former US President Donald Trump, which was enforced following the January 6, 2021 riots at the US Capitol.
Musk’s new statement suggests the reinstatement may be a decision made by a council of content moderators.
However, on Friday, Trump reportedly said he would remain on his own platform, Truth Social, but wished Musk well with his Twitter acquisition.
