Twitter announced a new policy to avoid spreading misinformation during a crisis
WASHINGTON: Twitter on Thursday announced a new global policy to address the spread of false or untrue information during crisis situations, Sputnik reported.
“Today, we introduced a policy on misinformation during a crisis – a global policy that will guide our efforts to improve information that is reliable, authoritative, and will help ensure misinformation is not disseminated or broadcast by us during a crisis,” Twitter said.
The new approach will help slow the spread of the most obvious and misleading content, especially those that lead to danger, Twitter said.
The social media company explained it may add warning notices to posts, including those containing: false descriptions of the conflict; false allegations regarding the use of force or encroachment on territorial sovereignty; false allegations of war crimes or mass atrocities against certain populations; and false information regarding international community responses, sanctions, defensive actions or humanitarian operations.
Strong reviews, attempts to uncover or review personal facts and anecdotes or first -person information are not included in the scope of the new policy, Twitter said.
Tricks that violate the policy will be placed on a warning notice telling readers that the content may be fake or misleading, Twitter added.
