Tim Burton infected with COVID-19, cancels fan meeting in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The director of superhero films Batman and Batman Returns as well as Planet of the Apes, Tim Burton has canceled a program to meet fans in Malaysia due to being infected with COVID-19.

The famous Hollywood director was originally scheduled to attend The World of Tim Burton exhibition and friendly session with fans in Malaysia on March 21 (tomorrow) at the Bukit Jalil Pavilion, here.

However, the session has now been canceled after the 64-year-old Burton tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently undergoing quarantine.

Following the cancellation, the class with the director that was supposed to take place on the same day was postponed until April 14.

Instead, it will be held virtually with more information to be shared in the coming weeks by the organizers, Toybox Projects.

The World of Tim Burton VIP ticket holders will receive a free ticket to a virtual director’s class along with a 10-minute meet-the-fan session with the director himself.

In fact, a group of VIP ticket holders will also receive a personal autograph from Burton as a token of appreciation with pick-up details emailed to them later.

They will be able to collect The Art of Tim Burton books and items at the museum’s pop-up exhibition and venue starting March 21.

“We at Toybox Projects would like to apologize for the inconvenience and we take this opportunity to thank the fans, sponsors and media for their patience and understanding.

“The World of Tim Burton pop-up museum and exhibition remains unchanged and will be available to the public from March 21 to July 30, 2023,” organizers said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Tim Burton Production Inc.’s Collection and Exhibition Manager, Brandi Pomfret apologized to Malaysian fans on behalf of the film’s director.

“We are very sad to share this news with you, but we have received the news that Burton will not be able to attend Kuala Lumpur due to COVID-19.

“We know this will be a huge disappointment for those hoping to see him at the opening of The World of Tim Burton, but Burton’s health is our top priority.

“However, we are happy that the art exhibit will continue and know that his fans will understand and be grateful for the opportunity to see his artwork,” Pomfret said in a statement.

More information about The World of Tim Burton exhibition will be shared on the official Toybox Project social media pages.
