TikTok’s parent company laid off hundreds of employees

BEIJING: The Chinese parent company of video app TikTok, ByteDance is reportedly laying off hundreds of employees in several departments at the end of 2022.
Citing the South China Morning Post report , this move is part of the company’s cost-saving measures.
Citing sources, the layoffs have been implemented at TikTok Douyin, which manages TikTok in China with about 600 million daily users including the company’s gaming and real estate operations.
The report added that the staff cuts represent a small percentage of ByteDance’s workforce.
In the meantime, Reuters informed that no response was given when asked to give further statements.
Last month, TikTok gained attention in the United States, with Congress poised to pass a nationwide ban on using the short video app on government-owned devices due to security risks.
The House of Representatives is expected to adopt legislation banning the use of TikTok on the professional phones of public servants, a move that will be followed by about 20 states across the US.
