Three routes in Banda Hilir are temporarily closed in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations

MELAKA: Three routes in Banda Hilir will be temporarily closed this Friday in conjunction with the celebration of Malaysia Day 2022 at the Declaration of Independence Memorial Square, here.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief ACP Christopher Patit said it involved Jalan Kota and Jalan Taman (near Menara Taming Sari) from 6pm to 12 midnight while Jalan Parameswara which is from the front of the former Equatorial Hotel building to the program site from 7.30pm to 12 midnight .

“We expect about 20,000 vehicles to enter the Banda Hilir area which is the center of tourist concentration this Friday compared to an average of about 10,500 vehicles per day during the weekend holidays.

“The Melaka police have made thorough preparations through a number of approaches that have been devised to ensure that the celebration of Malaysia Day this time runs smoothly and security aspects are given priority,” he said at a press conference here today.

He said 336 officers and members were assigned in conjunction with the celebration, covering the task of controlling traffic flow and security control around the Banda Hilir area and the program site.

Christopher also advised people who want to attend the Malaysia Day 2022 celebrations to come early and park their vehicles in the parking lot provided in the nearby area.

“More than 2,000 parking spaces are provided around Bandar Hilir and there is a shuttle bus that will take visitors from the parking spaces to the Malaysia Day celebration site.

“Police will also conduct periodic patrols in car parking areas to ensure the safety of abandoned vehicles, including in the Melaka Island area, and the public is also advised not to leave valuables in their vehicles,” he said.

The public is also asked to cooperate with the authorities, especially the police, by following the instructions or directions given as well as the existing rules to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, he said.
