Three races cooperate to decorate PPR Gua Musang with 12,000 Jalur Gemilang
GUA MUSANG: The spirit of the National Day that will be celebrated soon was felt at the Gua Musang People’s Housing Project (PPR) here, when the residents worked together to install 12,000 Jalur Gemilang to decorate 12 residential blocks there.
PPR Gua Musang PPR Block K leader Shukri Idris, 54, said the residents of the residential area have mobilized energy to install the Jalur Gemilang since last week.
“We received strong support from all the residents including the Malays, Chinese and Indians for the activity of decorating the residential blocks in this PPR, and they also contributed funds for the preparation of flags of various sizes for their respective blocks.
“All this was done to express the spirit of love for the country as well as being an example to young people to appreciate the meaning of independence,” he said when met by reporters at PPR Gua Musang, here on Sunday.
Shukri also said the purchase of each flag was the result of the residents’ collection estimated at RM1,000 for each block in the residential area.
A resident Lee Man Theng, 41, said each block in the area will be decorated with different decorations using the same foundation, the Jalur Gemilang.
“Every year I look forward to this kind of activity because each block will highlight each other’s creativity, but we are not competing, just showing excitement in different ways.
“I feel grateful to be able to live and grow up in a harmonious atmosphere even though the country has a diversity of races, nationalities and cultures,” he said.
Another resident, R. Kamala, 53, said that since this PPR opened five years ago, it has become their routine to work together to put up flags every time the National Day celebration arrives.
“This is one of the ways for us to show our spirit (National Day), we can also meet and make friends with our neighbors while putting up the flag.
“Normally, the flag will be placed on every floor including the highest floor which is the fourth floor.” she said.
