The White House characterizes the TikTok app as a safety issue
WASHINGTON: The White House described the existence of problems and issues on the social media application TikTok, to the point of threatening security issues.
According to the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, TikTok is alleged to be a platform for gathering security information.
“It was clear from the beginning about our stance on TikTok and our concerns about China.
“This is because they use advantages in digital technology and the data collected to the point of posing a threat to national security,” he said.
The United States (US) has so far raised concerns about security issues related to TikTok.
It mandated that all federal employees delete the app from their government-supplied smartphones.
Several other countries have implemented similar measures due to intelligence concerns.
In 2017, China enforced a law requiring companies to hand over to Beijing any data related to national security.
However, there is no evidence that TikTok submitted the data to Beijing.
Meanwhile, China described the ban imposed by the US as revealing a form of fear and abuse of power.
