The US government is advised to regulate AI operations

THE FOUNDER of high-tech chat room ChatGPT is urging US lawmakers to regulate artificial intelligence.

The insistence was made by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, when testifying before the Senate Committee on the pros and cons of the new technology.

Altman informed that a new agency should be created to regulate the operating license of AI-based companies.

This is because within a few months some AI models will enter the market.

“I feel we need regulations, guidelines on what to expect in terms of exposure from companies supplying models that have the capabilities as stated,” he said.

ChatGPT and some programs are just as capable of answering questions as humans but have the potential to be inaccurate.

Altman in the meantime also raised the ethical issue of the AI model.

While acknowledging the great potential of AI, Altman is also concerned about the potential dangers inherent in AI.

“This is one of the main concerns, more the ability for this model to manipulate, to persuade, to provide inaccurate interactive information.

“This is a significant concern. Regulation is a good thing,” he said.

Accordingly Altman proposed several methods to regulate AI.

This includes performing audits on AI firms.
