The son of a billionaire offers a reward of RM154 million to find the killer of the family
OTTAWA: The death of Canadian billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman remains a mystery until now.
Citing a CNN report, the bodies of the two were found on December 15, 2017 after a goods broker visited the couple’s mansion.
Still fully clothed, Barry Sherman, 75, and Honey, 70, were found in the pool area of the home with their necks tied with belts.
According to Canadian authorities, there was no discovery or evidence of their home being broken into that day.
As time went on, the story of the mysterious death of this millionaire couple became the headlines of the newspapers and various theories were heard about their deaths.
On the fifth anniversary of the couple’s death, Sherman’s son, Jonathon Sherman, offered US$35 million (RM154 million) in cash to anyone who managed to track down his parents’ killers.
“This week is the fifth anniversary since the day they were killed at home. Since that day, my life has been filled with pain, loss and sadness and these feelings remain,” Sherman said in a statement to Canada’s CBC News.
Sherman added, this case will not be considered closed until the killer is brought to justice.
“I hope that the day I can find out who the killer is and pay those who helped find it will be a day of healing for our family,” he said.
A few days after the grim discovery, authorities announced that an autopsy found the couple had died from ‘ligature neck compression’ or strangulation.
The investigation is still in its early stages and the death is not being ruled a homicide.
Barry Sherman founded Apotex in 1974 and grew the global pharmaceutical company while contributing more than US$50 million (RM221 million) to charity.
As of the date of his death, Forbes estimated Sherman’s assets to be worth US$3 billion (RM13.3 billion).
Their funerals were attended by thousands of people including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Provincial Minister Kathleen Wynne.
