KUALA LUMPUR: A single mother pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today to the charge of trying to trick her fellow country rock singer, Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman or Awie into buying concert tickets that did not exist last October.
Norhayati Maslinda Chew Asmawie Chew, 44, made the confession after the charges were read before Magistrate Normaizan Rahim.
According to the charges, the accused had deceived the organizer of the event, namely Murbarak Akthar Mohd Aris, 52, by encouraging the victim to buy non-existent ‘Unplugged Living Legend’ concert tickets in order to hand over money to the accused’s bank account.
The act was allegedly committed at Taman Bukit Mulia, Bukit Antarabangsa, that country on October 24.
The prosecution was made under Section 417 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 511 of the same code, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
Magistrate Normaizan then allowed the accused to be bailed at RM4,000 with one surety.
