The second best UUM in the country, 70 best in Asia
ALOR SETAR: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) emerged as the second best among public and private universities in Malaysia and among the 70 best universities in Asia through the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THEWUR) 2023 which was announced on Wednesday.
UUM Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah said, with a jump of 200 steps, the university is now on par with the University of Denver in the United States, Brunel University in the United Kingdom, Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand and Murdoch University in Australia. -same is ranked 401-500 in the world.
According to him, the increase in the citation impact category was seen to be significant in addition to research and internationalization compared to last year, showing that all the strategies implemented through the UUM Strategic Plan yielded encouraging results.
“The internationalization visibility category increased from 315 to 274 as a result of the increase in the number of international students and staff as well as international activities that continue to soar.
“This university also proved the impact of academic citations also increased from 883 to 660, thus showing the quality of publications, teaching and learning to reach a proud level,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He explained that UUM’s position in the world ranking also increased compared to the previous edition when it was in the group of 500 best universities in the world.
“I would like to say a thousand thanks to all the people of the university for their hard work helping in all matters so that the university can improve its ranking at the international level.
“This effort is the result of the cooperation of all levels of university people who contributed energy and ideas so that we managed to achieve the best international rating so far,” added Haim Hilman.
According to him, THE World University Rankings is a ranking of universities based on research and improvement in this category in addition to citations showing that UUM is also on par with other research universities.
“This gratifying achievement is a joint effort of all university members regardless of level and at the same time proves the ability of all of us that although UUM is a comprehensive university with a focus on management, it is not an obstacle to achieving greater success,” he said, hoping that all parties can continue give a high commitment.
For this latest edition, THE World University Rankings lists 1,779 universities from 104 countries which is the largest listing since its launch.
