The SAR operation for missing students on Mawar Island was stopped
MERSING: The search and rescue operation (SAR) of a private higher education institution student who was reported missing after climbing a hill alone on Pulau Mawar here was called off at 7pm yesterday.
Mersing District Police Chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the operation was stopped after no clues were found on the fifth day of the search.
“So far, there are no clues and signs that can help the search for victims involving land and water areas.
“However, if there is any relevant information, the search will be conducted again,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
The operation involving various agencies including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysian Civil Defense Force was also carried out using drone technology.
A report on the disappearance of Muhamad Akmal Hakimi Ishak, 20, was made by his father at the Kluang Police Station early last Friday morning, after the young man had not returned to his home in Kluang since 1 February.
The police then received a report about the discovery of a motorcycle believed to belong to Muhamad Akmal Hakimi in good condition and unlocked in an area near Pulau Mawar at about 11.30am, last Friday and launched a SAR at 5pm, the same day.
