STILL many people do not have knowledge about the information management profession in Malaysia, even though the field of study has been established in Malaysia since 1968.

Perhaps not many people know that the field of study of Library Science is a fundamental field that educates and gives rise to the profession of information management.

Library Science is a scientific field that organizes, organizes, organizes and manages printed and non-printed information in libraries so that it is easily accessible to users.

Now this field has developed under the umbrella of the Faculty of Information Management, UiTM which plays the role of producing graduates who meet the needs of the industry in six main programs namely Information Management, Library Management, Content Management, Information Systems Management, Records Management and Knowledge Management.

In fact, many people are still not aware that this field can have a big impact and play an important role in the development of the country and the nation.

As everyone knows, the national economy today depends on the knowledge-based economy ( k-economy ). It was sparked through a technological innovation revolution.

In this regard, knowledge is an asset that needs to be used to the maximum, managed and developed for a country to be more competitive in line with the industrial revolution towards Industry 4.0. Thus, the information management profession is the most important profession that is responsible for managing the knowledge of an organization in a country.

Effective knowledge management in an organization helps increase productivity, return on investment and also contributes to increasing the country’s economic growth rate. When a country develops the destiny of the nation is also protected.

In order to ensure that current economic needs and development can be met, organizations should utilize the information profession in managing human affairs through knowledge management practices or processes that are so critical and become the main focus of Industry 4.0.

The information profession is very competent in the knowledge management of an organization. Their main role is to be responsible for the entire process and tools to build, share and develop the human resource knowledge of an organization.

This can be done by ensuring that all human resources understand the process, go through the process in the best possible way and finally cultivate the process.

This is not an easy task as it requires great knowledge, passion and soul so that the entire process is successfully cultured by human resources in the organization concerned.

When the process is integrated, all work becomes easy and increases the productivity of the organization.

It’s no wonder why national giants such as Petronas, Telekom, Bank Negara Malaysia, Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pejaran and many more attach great importance to the implementation of knowledge management in their organizations.

This is because they are convinced that knowledge management can increase productivity and competitiveness and give them a good return.

Thus, they open up space for the information profession to carry out their task of managing information and knowledge of human resources in their organization.

With the existence of a library in the organization, file system management, information system management and the implementation of knowledge management in the organization, it makes this organization complete with a holistic information and knowledge management ecosystem.

It can manage the tacit and explicit information of an organization effectively.

Competition between organizations causes human resources to have many options to change careers.

This will cause a lack of knowledgeable and experienced human resources in the organization.

In an effort to manage the knowledge of human resources in the organization so that it does not escape or leave the organization, the information profession promotes the sharing of knowledge in the organization, forms organizational learning strategies and develops systems to capture tacit knowledge .

Knowledge sharing needs to be carried out between human resource groups involved in the organization in order for the learning and knowledge transfer process to proceed.

It can be done through various methods and mediums that suit the culture of an organization.

To ensure the smoothness of knowledge sharing, the information profession also provides the best knowledge sharing implementation advisory services, in order to become a practical medium in maintaining the sustainability of an organization’s knowledge.

The development of industrial revolution 4.0 causes the information profession to provide continuous training to human resources in organizations.

In conclusion, the information profession is a very special profession and different from others because this profession is able to manage information and knowledge from various fields with expertise in information management, content management, library management, record management, system management and knowledge management.

If viewed the information profession manages the content of printed, non-printed information and knowledge through system management and the latest technology.

It is not an ordinary material, but a very valuable one that is also classified as an organizational and national asset.

Information profession, has a character full of integrity in handling confidential information. In addition, take the lead in handling the information and knowledge management process so that a culture of knowledge sharing can be implemented in the organization.

Being flexible, proactive, creative and ready to accept change is an attitude that must be present in the information profession in order to remain relevant.
