The Raja Permaisuri Agong officially consented to the ACWW conference

KUCHING: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today officiated the 13th Conference of the World Association of Rural Women (ACWW) for Southeast Asia and the Far East, at a hotel here today.

Her Majesty arrived at 10 am accompanied by the wife of the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib and the wife of the Premier of Sarawak Puan Sri Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The three -day conference, which began yesterday, aims to build working networks and collaboration among women at home and abroad, as well as learning and sharing knowledge, through plenary sessions and educational visits.

The conference brought together 202 women delegates from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in a recording of his speech broadcast at the conference said almost half of Sarawak’s population was women, and the state government had featured various initiatives and assistance to develop their capacity, capability and efficiency.

“Women’s non -governmental organizations (NGOs) are very talented and hardworking in helping to achieve Sarawak’s development goals. You (women’s NGOs) can reach out to vulnerable or affected groups in our community and find innovative solutions to address problems,” she said.
