The OlaBola stage performance is back, the re-opening of the creative industry

KUALA LUMPUR: The musical production that won eight trophies at the 16th BOH Cameronian Art Awards, OlaBola, returns to fans for a limited season, next November.

Named OlaBola: I Cover You 2022 , it is a different and shorter version than the full version as presented for two seasons at Istana Budaya, a few years ago.

Director, Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina said, this time’s staging took inspiration from the OlaBola Merdeka staging tour in Penang, Kuantan, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in 2019.

“During the tour performance in 2019, we witnessed a very unusual reaction from the audience.

“From the beginning of the tour, it was evident that the level of adrenaline, emotion and excitement of the spectators in Malaysia towards football was indeed different from the others,” she said in a statement.

Tiara also sees the staging of OlaBola this time as a good sign for the creative arts industry which is gloomy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very excited to be able to do this staging. It is a sign of support and to celebrate the re-opening of the local theater industry.

“OlaBola is a feel good production which I’m sure will lift the spirits of all those impressed by this pandemic.

“We also hope that it can help a little as much in terms of realizing job opportunities, after three years of this industry being quiet,” she said again.

The limited season version of the 90-minute version this time will see the return of the actors from the original musical production which is Altimet who played the role of Sergeant Ahmad, Brian Chan as “Tauke” Chow Kwok Keong, Luqman Hafidz as Ahmad Ali and Lim Jian Wen as Ong Tiam Chai.

This production under Enfiniti is adapted from a film with the same title directed by Chiu Keng Guan published by Astro Shaw, Golden Screen Cinemas and Multimedia Entertainment Sdn Bhd.

OlaBola: I Cover You 2022 will be staged from 9 to 19 November 2022 at The Platform, Menara KEN TTDI.

Only 500 tickets are available for each show and fans can get them on the website
