The Octopus Ride Incident: The ‘fun fair’ site was once confiscated, the operator was stubborn to continue the operation – MPKS
KUALA SELANGOR: The site of the ‘fun fair’ at Eco Grandeur here was confiscated by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) on Nov 29 last because it did not obtain an operating license from the party, but the operator of the playground continued to operate.
MPKS Chairman Rahilah Rahmat said permission to operate at the game site was however given to the operator by the developer from Dec 2 to next Jan 8 since the area has not yet been handed over to MPKS.
She said her party had received applications from the organizers’ representatives to obtain a license on Nov 29 and Dec 1 last but the applications were found to be incomplete.
“The process of obtaining a license for a ‘fun fair’ needs approval from the MPKS Enforcement Department, the police and most importantly from the Selangor Occupational Safety and Health Department (JKKP).
“They once included the approval when opening a ‘fun fair’ in Klang but not in Kuala Selangor. This case will be referred to the Selangor JKKP and the police,” she told reporters when visiting the site of the ‘fun fair’ here today.
Last night, two women and a child were injured after falling while riding the ‘Octopus Ride’ game which was rotating at the ‘fun fair’ site and videos and pictures of the incident went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor District Police Chief Supt Ramli Kasa said no arrests have been made so far following the incident, but the case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor to make charges in accordance with Section 6(1) of the Selangor State Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1995 for an offense operate without a license.
He said for now, all the victims, a 31-year-old woman with her 11-year-old sister and another woman, have been released from Shah Alam Hospital after receiving treatment.
