Minister says scrutinising acquisition of TM subsidiary that manages landmark by relatively unknown firm

Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil said that he had received a detailed briefing regarding the management concession of Menara KL from his ministry on December 14.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) is closely monitoring the issue of the sale of Menara Kuala Lumpur shares and is ready to give full cooperation if the authorities conduct any investigation into the issue.

His minister Fahmi Fadzil said in a statement that he had also received a detailed briefing regarding the management concession of Menara KL from KKD on December 14.

“I take seriously the issues raised on social media as well as the questions asked by the media regarding the takeover of the management of Menara KL through full shareholding from Telekom Malaysia (TM) through its subsidiary Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd to Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd.

“I understand that the management concession of Menara KL is now in its third interim period until December 31, 2022 by Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd,” he explained.

He added that TM will also give a comprehensive briefing on the management takeover of Menara KL to the ministry on January 3 next.

Meanwhile, former Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa told news portal MalaysiaKini that the ministry was not involved in the Menara KL takeover deal.

“Ask TM, if the company makes a profit of RM25 million why don’t they want it and why do they want to give it to people?” said Annuar, citing the news portal’s report.

Recently, a claim spread on social media that Telekom sold the subsidiary that manages Menara KL to Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd.
