KUALA LUMPUR: Astro’s animated film Mechamato created its own history when it took home the Anime Fan Award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2023 (TAAF).

This victory saw Mechamato beat other animated films such as TIGER & BUNNY 2 Part 1 and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

This news was announced through the official website of TAAF, this evening.

TAAF2023 received a total of 183,364 votes while Mechamato got 40,590 votes out of that number.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Animonsta Studios (Monsta), Nizam Abdul Razak expressed his excitement with the success of Mechamato and thanked everyone who endlessly voted for the animation at TAAF 2023.

“Apparently Mechamato is the first non-Japanese animation to win this category at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival!,” he said on Twitter.

In the meantime, Nizam also thanked the voters who have supported this film, thus making it the first animated film outside of Japan to win this award.

Mechamato Movie, which costs RM30 million, tells the story of a teenage boy, Amato, who finds a prison spaceship carrying an evil robot crashed on earth.

One of those robots is the MechaBot that has the ability to combine and turn everyday objects into high-tech gadgets.
