‘The Little Mermaid’ topped the box office chart in North America
LOS ANGELES: The movie The Little Mermaid topped the box office ticket sales chart in North America with estimated sales in three days at the end reaching US$95.5 million, Xinhua reported.
Adapted from Disney’s iconic 1989 animated film, the musical fantasy film is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s 1837 fairy tale, the film tells the love story of a mermaid known as Ariel.
The film directed by Rob Marshall features actors like Halle Bailey as the lead, along with Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Jonah Hauer-King, Art Malik and others.
So far, this film has received a rating of 67 percent based on 242 reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
The Little Mermaid earned an “A” on a scale of “A+” to “F” based on a survey by market research firm CinemaScore.
Universal Pictures’ action film Fast X was in second place with US$23.02 million over the weekend.
