The Latin American Festival fosters cultural understanding for Malaysians

The festival will be a bridge to further strengthen friendship between Latin American countries and Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 14th Latin American Festival which will take place on June 11 in Kuala Lumpur is expected to attract more city residents to get to know the richness of Latin American culture.

Argentina’s ambassador to Malaysia Manuel Balaguer Salas who is also the Dean of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Embassies in Malaysia (GRULAC) said the festival will also be an important event because it is a bridge to further strengthen the friendship between Latin American countries and Malaysia.

“The festival is a testament to our shared heritage, uniting us in celebration while understanding the spirit of inclusion and unity.

“It gave us the opportunity to explore different aspects of Latin American culture, appreciating both the similarities and differences that make each country unique.

“Through this festival, we intend to foster cultural understanding between our country and Malaysia, build bridges of friendship and encourage dialogue among the people.

“We believe that by showcasing the richness of tradition, we can break down barriers and promote a deeper understanding of the colorful diversity of life in Latin America,” Salas said in a press conference here on Tuesday.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor to fund the “Kafe Kabin Makanan” project, aimed at training disabled youth for future jobs in the hospitality industry.

The one-day festival, attended by nine Latin American embassies namely – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, will take place from 11am to 5.30pm on Sunday (June 11) at Commons KL, Jalan Bukit Bintang .

The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of Latin America and the Caribbean Group of Countries (GRULAC), together with Plaza Low Yat, Federal Hotels International, the Malaysian Latin Women’s Association, and supported by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
