The Italian antitrust agency launched an investigation into Apple
ROM: Italy’s antitrust agency, AGCM, on Thursday launched an investigation against the American technology company, Apple, for alleged abuse of its dominant position in the application market, Anadolu Agency reported.
The AGCM stated that since April 2021, the company is considered to have taken a more restrictive privacy policy approach towards third-party application developers than applied to it.
AGCM claims that external developers and advertisers suffer from a lack of “quality data provided by Apple.”
Additionally, it adds that external app developers receive low-quality information about the effectiveness of their in-app advertising campaigns.
“Therefore, according to the authorities, discriminatory treatment by Apple could lead to a decrease in advertising revenue for external advertisers.”
Under EU competition law, companies found guilty of abusing market dominance risk fines of up to 10 percent of their annual sales.
