The government plans to build a drag racing circuit in every state – PM

KUALA NERUS: The government plans to build a special circuit for drag racing in each state in an effort to strengthen the motor sports development program in the country.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the proposal will be included in the 2023 Budget that will be presented this October.

“So far there have been two drag circuits built in Terengganu and Melaka,” he said when officiating the 2022 RXZ Members 4.0 Program at the Terengganu International Drag Strip at Gong Badak here, today.

He said, when the circuit is completed, it will give the youth an opportunity to get involved more seriously in motor sports according to the right channel.

Ismail Sabri also called on young people to participate in MyFit@Motorsports 2022, which is a grassroots motoring development program involving the development of motorcycle and car sports organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Ismail Sabri said, under the program, participants have the opportunity to get education through training, courses and clinics, thus being able to unearth the talents of the country’s motor athletes to participate in tournaments and races at the state and national level.

He said that the government will always support the activities of motoring clubs, especially in the success of charity programs to help people who are affected by hardship such as being hit by floods, to reduce unhealthy activities on the streets.

“Organizations related to motoring do a lot of charity activities… when there was a flood, many motor clubs were involved in cleaning the houses of flood victims.

“Perhaps it is possible to organize (a gathering of riders) every year and the government can provide sponsorship… it can highlight the interest of young people, it can reduce the negative perception of riders associated with various names such as Mat Motor,” he said.

The Prime Minister also congratulated all parties involved in the organization of the program which received more than 30,000 visits from motor sports enthusiasts throughout the country.

At the rally, the organizers also offered the main prize of a lucky draw which was a Yamaha R1 1000cc motorcycle worth RM135,000 and two Yamaha RXZ worth RM60,000.
