The founder of the comedy club pleaded not guilty to allegations of sending lewd communications
KUALA LUMPUR: The founder and co -owner of a comedy club pleaded not guilty to three charges of sending obscene communications at the Cyber Crime Section Court, here, on Friday.
The accused, Mohamad Rizal Johan Van Geyzel, 39, made the confession after the charge was read before Judge Nor Hasniah Abdul Razak.
The court, however, allowed the accused bail of RM12,000 with one surety for all three charges.
The accused was also ordered to hand over his passport and not make any comment on social media regarding the case he was facing.
According to the first charge, he is accused of knowingly creating and initiating the transmission of malicious communication with the intention of hurting others through a link on the Facebook application at 11.23pm, 4 July last.
Meanwhile, for the second and third charges, the accused was charged with committing the same offense through his Instagram and Tiktok profile pages on 6 and 5 July 2022.
If convicted, the accused may be fined not more than RM50,000 or imprisoned not more than one year or both, and be fined RM1,000 for each day the offense continues after conviction for each charge under Section 233 (1) (a) Communications and Multimedia Act (Act 588).
The judge set Aug. 19 for re -mention of the case for submission of documents.
The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutors, Noor Haslinda Che Seman and Nurul Ain Abu Bakar, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ramkarpal Singh.
