The film ‘The Kashmir Files’ is banned in Singapore

SINGAPORE: The film The Kashmir Files chronicles the migration of Hindus from the disputed province of Kashmir to be banned in Singapore, CNA reported today.

Citing a joint statement by the Media Infocomm Development Authority (IMDA), Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the republic’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the authorities have evaluated the Hindi -language film which is deemed to deviate from film guidelines in Singapore.

“The film is deemed to have elements of provocation and bias against Muslims and depicts Hindus being persecuted in the conflict that is still plaguing Kashmir.

“It has the potential to provoke hostility between communities, disrupt social cohesion and religious harmony in our multi -racial and multi -religious society,” according to the statement.

Under the film’s guidelines “any material that is offensive to race or religion in Singapore” is not permitted.
