The family of the victim of the shooting on the set of the filming of Alec Baldwin’s suit
LOS ANGELES: The family of a woman killed during the filming of the movie “Rust” filed a civil suit against famous Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin as well as several other individuals on Tuesday.
They claimed that all those named did not practice the standard practices of the film industry to ensure safe filming sets.
The civil suit was filed in Santa Fe, New Mexico on behalf of Matthew Hutchins, husband of the late Halyna Hutchins and their 9 -year -old son.
“The suit names Alec Baldwin and several other individuals responsible for ensuring safety on the filming set.
“Their actions to reduce costs have resulted in the death of Halyna Hutchins,” attorney Brian Panish said at a news conference in Los Angeles.
In the incident on October 21 last year, the film’s artistic director Halyna Hutchins was killed while director Joel Souza was injured after being hit by a live bullet from a .45 caliber Colt pistol used by Baldwin.
Filming of the film, which Baldwin also published, took place at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico.
According to Baldwin’s lawyer and other producer of the “Rust” film, Aaron Dyer, the actor’s claim of not caring about safety issues is false.
Earlier Baldwin, who is best known for his character as the TV channel’s executive officer in the comedy series “30 Rock” said he was told the weapon used was safe to wear during filming.
“This adopted protocol is used in thousands of films and after millions of shots have been fired before, there have been no incidents on the filming set involving injuries due to live ammunition.
“Actors should be able to rely on the crew of the filming set to ensure safety and not determine for themselves if the weapons used are safe,” Dyer said.
But Panish said Baldwin should have been responsible for the incident because the actor picked up the weapon that caused the death of Halyna Hutchins.
“The weapon will not fire on its own. It was Baldwin who pulled the trigger of the gun that caused Halyna Hutchins’ death,” he said.
