The Citrawarna program spawned a new cluster in Sarawak, 21 confirmed positive
KUCHING: Sarawak recorded another COVID-19 cluster, involving the Malaysian Family Photo Program 2022 with 21 individuals found positive for COVID-19 including index cases.
This community cluster involves cases that are directly involved with the program which lasted for four days starting on 24 February 2022 on the banks of the Kuching River, Sarawak with an estimated 50,000 visitors.
The report of the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBNS) revealed that a total of 59 individuals had been screened and the remaining 32 individuals were negative while six were still awaiting results.
“The index case (Case 259147) for this cluster is a 45-year-old man, a local, who tested positive for COVID-19 through symptomatic individual screening on 27 February 2022 at a private medical hospital in Kuching.
“The spread of the infection is believed to be due to close association and contact among them while attending the program and has spread to the second generation of infection.
“While all positive cases are being treated at Sarawak General Hospital and PKRC in Kuching,” explained JPBNS on Wednesday.
The report also informed that there are a total of 24 other positive cases that have been reported (not from this cluster) also have a history of movement to attend the Citrawarna Program.
“In relation to that, individuals who have a history of attending the Citrawarna Keluarga Malaysia 2022 Program which lasted for four days starting on 24 February 2022 on the banks of the Kuching River are advised to do self -monitoring and self -screening if they experience any signs and symptoms.
“People are also advised not to attend group activities that involve many participants or attendees where the SOP is difficult to comply with, especially if they have symptoms or have been detected positive,” he said.
Sarawak today recorded a total of 1,727 COVID-19 positive cases with 1,714 cases belonging to clinical categories 1 and 2 and 13 cases of categories 4 and 5 increasing the total to 272,142 cases.
Meanwhile, two deaths were recorded on 7 and 8 March 2022 involving senior citizens male (72 years old) at Kapit Hospital and women (60 years old) at Mukah Hospital.
Both victims suffered from co-morbid blood clots, dyslipidemia, diabetes, chronic kidney and cancer.
