Thaipusam parade in Ipoh, this is a list of roads closed, detours
IPOH: Police announced the closure and detours of several roads in Ipoh City in conjunction with the Thaipusam festival from February 3 to 7.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said, the main event of the celebration was the pedati and kavadi procession from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Sungai Pari, Buntong to the Sri Subramaniar Temple at Gunung Cheroh.
According to him, the parade will start at 6pm on Friday and is expected to finish at 12.30 midnight, while the return parade is expected to start at 4.30pm on Monday and is expected to finish at 10.30am on Tuesday.
Accordingly, he said, diversions and road closures will be implemented in stages during the parade.
He said that among the roads involved are Jalan Sungai Pari, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Lahat, Jalan Perhentian, Jalan Sultan Yusoff, Jalan Sultan Iskandar, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, Jalan Laxamana, Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar, Jalan Datuk Ahmafd Said and Hospital Circle.
“The carriage return movement from Sri Subramaniar Temple, Gunung Cheroh to Sri Mariamman Temple, Sungai Pari, Buntong will go through the same route,” he said in a statement tonight.
Yahaya said that his party expected the attendance of 80,000 visitors during the five days of the celebration in Ipoh.
Accordingly, he advised road users around Ipoh City to plan their journey and obey the instructions of the police officers on duty throughout the journey.
