TESLA opens headquarters, experience center, service center in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) has approved TESLA’s application to import Electric Vehicle (BEV) batteries into Malaysia.
According to its Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, in realizing this objective, TESLA will open a head office in Malaysia.
In addition, it will introduce the TESLA Experience Center and Service Center as well as establish its Supercharger network in Malaysia.
He said, TESLA’s presence in Malaysia is expected to create job opportunities that can offer better wages for the BEV segment and increase the participation of local companies in the TESLA ecosystem at the domestic and global level.
“We are happy with TESLA’s decision to participate in the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Malaysia and this proves TESLA’s confidence in the economic base and conducive business environment in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.
Commenting further, Tengku Zafrul said that although many major global brands have chosen to invest in Malaysia, MITI and its agency will continue to increase efforts in empowering the ease of doing business.
At the same time, it will continue to raise Malaysia’s profile as a pro-trade, pro-industry and pro-investment country.
“We will also strategically leverage the electricity and electronics ecosystem to make Malaysia a preferred investment destination for electric mobility-related technology.
“TESLA’s entry was facilitated by MITI through the introduction of the BEV Global Leaders initiative to help increase BEV demand in the local market and encourage the development of an entire ecosystem to support BEV adoption.
“In addition, this initiative aims to get investment from leading global BEV manufacturers in Malaysia,” he said.
He added that TESLA was the first applicant for the initiative by MITI.
