Terengganu will build an al-Quran college in Dungun
DUNGUN: An al-Quran college worth RM370 million will be built in Terengganu in pioneering the way towards creating a top Islamic education hub in the country.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the construction of the Terengganu Al-Quran College (KQT) on an area of 121 hectares in Durian Mentangau near here, is expected to start next year after all tender matters by related parties are completed.
He said the college is expected to take two years to complete, and according to the plan, the first phase of recruitment will involve a total of 1,000 students.
“The construction of the campus aims to re-establish an Islamic higher education institution (IPT) owned by the state government in place of the Sultan Zainal Abidin Religious College (KUSZA) which was once the pride of the state.
“We are also in the process of applying to the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to upgrade KQT to a university college,” he said after the groundbreaking ceremony for the KQT Permanent Campus and Mentangau Durian Sustainable New Town near here today.
Also present was the Chairman of the State Shariah Implementation Committee, Education and Higher Education, Datuk Satipul Bahri Mamat.
It is understood that the college is expected to accommodate up to 3,000 students once it is fully completed.
