Tengku Zafrul launched a book appreciating the services of frontline economic workers, sharing notes on coping with COVID-19

KUALA LUMPUR: Finance Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Aziz expressed his appreciation for the services of front line workers in the national economy through the launch of his first book entitled “Weathering The Economic Storm: A Journey Through Uncharted Waters of COVID-19”.

The book, which was launched in conjunction with the celebration of Independence and Malaysia Day on September 16, touches on the contribution of Malaysian children who sacrificed and ensured the economy of the people and the country when faced with COVID-19.

Explained Tengku Zafrul, the book is a compilation of notes he kept while dealing with COVID-19, as well as the views behind the economic policies enacted by the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

“From a broader economic perspective, we at the MoF need to think outside the box and respond to the needs of the people and at the same time, be fiscally responsible.

“Most of these policies are formulated with limited time and information and no handbook to refer to.

“This book is not just a record of my time at the MoF, but more importantly, a tribute to the frontline, who are the unsung heroes of Malaysia’s economic recovery,” he said at the launch of the book on Friday.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah agreed to go to the event.

Also leaving was the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah and the Deputy Ruler of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin.

Tengku Zafrul explained again, he is optimistic that if the community works hard together, a brighter future will await Malaysia.

He hopes that his debut book can be a public record of what economic frontline workers in the MoF, ministries and other agencies are doing to ensure that the country’s economy is not adversely affected throughout the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Selangor in his speech described Tengku Zafrul as steering the country’s economy with full seriousness and sincerity, helping all levels of society in all corners of the country affected by the pandemic.

His Majesty said, the publication of the book is very timely because many want to know the rationale and process behind the government’s policy in managing the economy during the pandemic.

“There is no guidebook for dealing with COVID-19 so all countries have to create their own through trial and error.

“I myself was faced with various challenges and had to make drastic decisions when the COVID-19 epidemic spread, for the sake of the well-being of the people of Selangor. Therefore, I fully understand the heavy responsibility that Tengku Zafrul is shouldering at the federal level,” said the Sultan of Selangor.
