Tengku Permaisuri Selangor ordered to restore the art of ‘Kelingkan’ embroidery

SHAH ALAM: Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin ordered that efforts to restore the heritage and textiles of ‘Kelingkan’ embroidery be held among the people of the state.

For that purpose, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin ordered that the Selangor State Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (PADAT) can plan an agenda to popularize the culture and heritage that used to be popular in Selangor.

“The art of ‘Kelingkan’ embroidery which used to be familiar among the royal family of Selangor after it was introduced by Tengku Ampuan Jemaah and the legacy was continued by Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, is now becoming rarer,” said His Majesty at the launch of seven new books published by PADAT here today this.

The seven books are Sulaman Kelingkan Melayu by Mohd Subli Musa; three books written by Intan Salina Idrus, namely Telepuk Art of Selangor Malay Heritage, Latest Research on Acheh Tombstones in Selangor and Telepuk Heritage of Malay Nature; Selangor Kebaya by Rohayu Mohd Yunus; Wau Kapal Game by Mohd Subli Musa and Selangor Plate Dance by the late Mohd Lotfi Nazar.

Tengku Permaisuri Selangor also expressed her well wishes and congratulations to PADAT employees for the successful production of works related to tangible and intangible heritage that are of high quality and have high value.

Her Majesty’s writing is an important documentation that can be used as a source of reference by future generations, especially regarding textile heritage arts that are increasingly being forgotten such as kelingkan embroidery and folded cloth which are now increasingly difficult to obtain due to the lack of skilled entrepreneurs to produce them.

“It is my great hope that cooperation can be done with related agencies so that this book collection is not only placed in libraries in the country, but can be promoted to libraries abroad,” said Her Majesty.
