KUALA LUMPUR: Film director Syamsul Yusof today filed a nusyuz application against his first wife, actress Puteri Sarah Liyana, at the Gombak East Syariah Lower Court, here.

The application was filed by Syamsul, or real name Mohd Shamsul Md Yusof, 39, against Puteri Sarah Liyana or real name Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin, 38, before Syariah Court Registrar Harun Hashim at 3.10pm.

Based on the statement of claim, Mohd Shamsul claimed that Puteri Sarah often contacted her ex-boyfriend who had the status of husband without her knowledge, thus disturbing the man’s household.

In addition, Mohd Shamsul claimed that Puteri Sarah had left him for more than two years and it was against his will.

Shamsul said that various measures and efforts were also taken to persuade Puteri Sarah to return to his arms and order the defendant to return to obedience but the woman refused and instead issued untrue, slanderous and slanderous statements against her.

In this regard, Mohd Shamsul requested that the court declare that Puteri Sarah has been nusyuz against the plaintiff since October 2020 and that the defendant is not entitled to receive maintenance from his wife since the date of nusyuz conviction.

The application was made in accordance with Section 60 (2) of the Islamic Family Law Enactment (Selangor State) 2003 and Section 61(3) (b)(i) of the Islamic Religious Administration Enactment (Selangor State) 2003.

Earlier, lawyer Syarie Azmi Tan Seri Dr Mohd Rais, who represented Mohd Shamsul, informed that his party would submit a summons to Puteri Sarah in the near future.

“Today, Mohd Shamsul has filed a nusyuz claim case against Puteri Sarah and we have just received permission to submit the suit outside the jurisdiction since Puteri Sarah lives in the Federal Territory.

“Therefore, we will hand over this nusyuz summons in the near future,” he said, who also informed that the mention of the case will be on April 6.

Mohd Shamsul when met by the media said his purpose in filing the application was to save their marriage because the Munafik movie actor still loved his wife.

“I want to save the family because I’m still thinking about the children, we want to talk about mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, my wife also makes mistakes,” he said.

On 16 Jan last, Puteri Sarah filed for divorce against Mohd Shamsul amicably with the permission of the court under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.

However, on March 7, Mohd Shamsul refused to divorce Puteri Sarah because he did not agree with the request.

At the proceedings, syariah lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader who represented Puteri Sarah requested to go through the family law process without going through the Conciliation Committee (JKP) in the divorce application but lawyer Roshdan Sujak who represented Mohd Syamsul objected.

Federal Territories Syariah Lower Court Judge Akmaluddin Ilyas then ordered the couple to appoint a JKP representative after deciding that there were no unusual circumstances in Princess Sarah’s application not to go through the JKP process and go straight to family law.
