Sunway Malls launched the ‘Cahaya Raya’ campaign with the autism community
KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway Malls brightened up this Eid season through the ‘Cahaya Raya’ campaign with the autism community in recognizing and appreciating the group in order to fight for their acceptance in society.
Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Malls and Theme Parks, HC Chan said, the launch of the ‘Cahaya Raya’ campaign was inspired by the tradition of lighting lamps on the last 10 nights of Ramadan which is seen to bring light of joy to visitors at each chain of shopping centres.
“This launch event is also made as inclusive as possible for autistic people, evidenced by the provision of ear plugs for those who are sensitive to noise, in addition to the provision of a quiet zone for guests to enjoy the launch event more comfortably.
“We must also strive to be as inclusive as possible with the level of progress of a society reflected by the nature of openness and acceptance of its members, inclusiveness is a core in our organization,” he said at the launch of the Cahaya Raya Campaign at Sunway Putra Mall, here, yesterday.
Also present at the launch ceremony were Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, President of the National Autism Association of Malaysia (NASOM), Datuk Megat Ahmad Shahrani Megat Shahruddin and NASOM Chairman, Julian Wong.
Meanwhile, Yeoh said, the program with the autistic people is a continuous effort of Sunway Malls together with the local community to help those in need in every festival.
“Previously, they helped our frontline during the (pandemic) of COVID-19 and during the previous Eid they helped a family in Sungai Penchala to change their house and this time (helped) a family with autistic children.
“So I see this as a meaningful contribution because this is an ongoing effort, plus we know that shopping centers are where the community gathers. If every shopping center holds this awareness program, it will help the Malaysian community,” he said.
The ‘Cahaya Raya’ theme that adorns all Sunway shopping centers presents Islamic motifs on the entrance gates, passageways and various charming structures.
Sculptures and 3D works with geometric elements, light and space can also be witnessed and the elements of the moon and stars as focal points also become symbols of guidance and diversity.
To further enrich the atmosphere of ‘Cahaya Raya’, visitors can observe interactive light displays in each chain of shopping centers with their own digital decoration innovation.
