Squid Game star has been charged with sexual misconduct
SEOUL: Squid Game actor Oh Young-soo has been charged with sexual misconduct, AFP reported on Friday.
The 78-year-old actor in January became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the popular Netflix series.
According to local media reports, Oh was brought to court on Thursday for allegedly touching a woman inappropriately in 2017.
“Everything reported by the local media about Oh is actually not wrong,” an official from the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office told AFP, without giving further details.
Following the news, Seoul’s Ministry of Culture decided to stop the government’s commercial broadcast of its regulatory innovation featuring Oh.
Squid Game became Netflix’s most popular series ever, attracting 111 million fans in less than four weeks after its 2021 premiere.
To this day it is still one of the most popular shows on the platform, thus reinforcing the success of South Korea’s influence on global popular culture.
