Special People Art Festival at KL Gateway Mall, this October 30
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Employees’ Association (Karyawan) for the first time launched the Special People’s Art Festival in collaboration with the Central Disabled People’s Association to support the talents and artistic abilities of people with disabilities (OKU).
Karyawan President, Datuk Freddie Fernandez, said the festival will be held at the KL Gateway Mall, Kerinchi, here on Oct 30, from 10am to 10pm.
“This festival will last for one day with a variety of interesting programs and activities that the disabled and the public can participate in. In addition, there are several competitions and attractive prizes awaiting potential participants,” he said at a press conference, here today.
He said the program was triggered when some members of the Bureau OKU Karyawan which consisted of more than 100 individuals suggested that an art event be held specifically for them, who are on average very talented and make a career as buskers (group of street musicians) to support their daily income.
“In addition, on the night of the festival there will be a special concert featuring special vocal talent and among those involved are Caliph Buskers, Bad Indigo, Zaiton Sameon, Azmir Arif and other artist friends such as Moq, Datuk Yusni Hamid, Radhi Khalid, Rozita Rohaizad and many more,” he said.
The president of the OKU Central Association, Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, said he was very grateful to the employees for helping the group to show their talents and abilities to the community through the program.
“Actually, this kind of program is a continuation of the programs that have been organized by OKU Sentral for several years.
“I hope that all parties, including the media, can spread the word about this festival so that they can give more approach and exposure to those out there to give the disabled an opportunity to perform and invite those who have disabled children to participate,” she said.
The festival also received cooperation from several agencies including the Social Welfare Department, the Federal Territories Foundation and the private sector.
