Socar is poised for further growth in 2023, supported by high demand last year

KUALA LUMPUR: Socar, Malaysia’s leading car rental application, is confident of its growth prospects this year supported by the high number of rentals achieved throughout 2022 as Malaysians strongly embrace the sustainable mobility solutions offered by the company.

Socar Mobility Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Shylendra Nathan said that since the government has eased travel restrictions, the services offered by Socar proved to be attractive to drivers, allowing the company to record healthy growth in 2022.

“Socar offers drivers an easy way to access a wide range of car models to meet their needs and demands while providing the possibility of a car-free life all the time.

“Car sharing also offers another mode of sustainable mobility that reduces the number of private cars on our roads, complementing other methods such as public transport and e-hailing,” he said in a statement today.

He said that since travel restrictions were lifted, Socar has recorded impressive growth with usage increasing to over 20,000 from 5,000 during the conditional movement control order period, showing demand for mobility options and car sharing as an option for drivers.

“Support services that enhance the experience such as Socar-2-You drop-off and pick-up services are also seeing an increase in demand.

“The 24-hour pick-up service that was just introduced in December 2022 is the latest product in Socar’s network of services, it is designed to enhance the end-to-end shared mobility experience for users,” he said.

He said to continue to cater to the growing customer base, Socar has expanded the range of car models in its group to more than 40 types, including compact, sedan and hatchback options to suit various lifestyles and use cases.

Apart from that, he said another important expansion was the arrival of Socar in Kota Kinabalu, joining existing services in the Klang Valley, Penang, Ipoh, Seremban, Melaka and Johor Bahru.

“In the nine months since being in Kota Kinabalu, Socar has seen over 2,000 bookings completed, showing promising growth for East Malaysia,” he added.
