Singer Jason Lo remains free of drug charges

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Jason Lo remains free on charges of putting amphetamine and methamphetamine in his body.

This follows the decision of High Court Judge Datuk Noorin Badaruddin to reject the prosecution’s appeal against the decision of the Magistrate Court which released and acquitted Jason Lo or his real name Jason Jonathan Lo from the charge.

“The prosecution’s appeal is dismissed and the decision of the Magistrate Court to acquit and acquit the respondent (Jason Lo) is upheld,” said Noorin.

Today’s proceedings were attended by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Mohd Fadli Nik Azlan, while Jason Lo was represented by lawyer Datuk Hariharan Tara Singh.

On June 24 last year, Magistrate Mohamad Fared Abdul Latif acquitted Jason Lo who is also a businessman after finding that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the accused at the end of the prosecution case.

According to the charge, Jason Lo, 48, is accused of injecting amphetamine and methamphetamine into his body without lawful permission, in the toilet of the Narcotics office of the Brickfields District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Jalan Travers, Brickfields at 5.15pm, 15 November 2019.

Prosecution in accordance with Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and if convicted, can be punished under Section 15(1) of the same act which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years and mandatory supervision under the supervision of officers recovery up to three years.

Jason Lo when met by reporters said he was grateful for today’s decision and thanked the lawyer who represented him in the case.

“I believe in the judicial system in this country and I appreciate the services of the lawyers who have worked hard to help me in this case,” he said.
