Singapore hotel room prices are among the most expensive in Southeast Asia

SINGAPORE: Hotel room prices in Singapore are reported to be among the most expensive in Southeast Asia.

Data released by the Singapore Tourism Board shows the average room charge for one night now stands at S$259 (about RM830), an increase of almost 70 percent since September 2012.

This number continues to increase since Singapore eased restrictions on entry into the country, reported the South China Morning Post .

Despite experiencing a fairly significant price increase, luxury hotels in Southeast Asia are still in the ‘cheap’ category compared to other developed countries.

In comparison, the price of a five-star hotel stay in Singapore is around S$344 (RM1,100) per night, compared to S$387 (RM1,240) in Hong Kong; S$522 (RM1,670) in Tokyo; and S$584 (RM1870) in London.

While the price of a five-star hotel in Sydney, Australia is around S$318 (RM1,015) per night; and S$256 (RM818) in Seoul, Korea.

As of July, the number of visitor arrivals continued to increase to 726,601 compared to 543,733 in June.

The influx of visitors is expected to continue to increase as Singapore hosts many international events.

Singapore saw the highest influx of visitors from Indonesia, India, Australia, the Philippines and Malaysia which accounted for 56 percent in the first six months.

Meanwhile, Singapore estimates four to six million visitors this year.
