Shawn Mendes cancels tour to take time off
He cites reason as taking ‘the time I’ve never taken personally’
SINGER Shawn Mendes announced that he will be cancelling his ‘Wonder’ tour altogether on Wednesday.
This comes in the wake of his postponing his world tour three weeks ago to focus on his mental health, reported Variety.
In a social media post he wrote: “As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me.
“I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.”
He added that he made the decision after speaking to his team and health professionals, after which “it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger.
“I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK / Europe.”
He had initially believed they would be able to continue to tour after the time off but concluded that he would have to put his health first.
“This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future.
“I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal,” he added.
“I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”
He was scheduled to perform the first show at his hometown of Toronto this Sunday.
In terms of ticket sales, half of the dates for the tour are still available upon a check on the Ticketmaster seating charts.
Mendes’ latest single ‘It’ll Be Okay’ was released in December last year, while his fourth album ‘Wonder’ dropped December 2020. He is also gracing the big screen in ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’, set to open on October 7.
