Shah Rukh Khan, Modi were among those present at Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and popular Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan were among the dignitaries present to pay their last respects at the funeral of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, on Sunday.
Among others, they were seen meditating and laying wreaths at the National Funeral Ceremony at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, at 6.30pm local time (9pm Malaysian time), according to The Indian Express.
There were many other dignitaries and celebrities present at the ceremony including the famous Indian and world famous cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar.
Earlier, veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan accompanied by his son, Shweta Bachchan, were also present to pay their last respects at the deceased’s residence in Mumbai.
As a mark of respect to the late who was also the recipient of the highest award for the public, Bharat Ratna, the Indian government also announced to fly the half -mast flag and mourn for two days.
During that period all official functions were also ordered to be canceled.
The Bollywood actress died at the age of 92 at a hospital in Mumbai Breach Candy after being admitted to the intensive care unit since January 11 due to COVID-19 infection.
Mangeshkar, who was born in 1929, began his art career at the age of five as a result of the training of his father, Deenanth.
After his father died, he had to take on the responsibility of supporting his four siblings and family at the age of 13.
The late was also invited by the government to sing a patriotic song in honor of the soldiers killed in the Indo-China war in 1962.
Mangeshkar is known for his nature of often singing without wearing shoes as a sign of respect to the art of singing and writing his own lyrical verses before recording them.
