Seven short film makers received Finas funds
KUALA LUMPUR: Seven local young employees received a Special Fund for Short Films from the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) to strengthen their skills in producing quality works that are accepted internationally.
They are Mohd Hairi Safwan with a work titled ‘Qarin’, Lim Han Loong (Family Gathering), Lee Shi Min (Dad’s Suit), Syahnur Asyikin Kee Charles (Peace Land), Syazani Zikry Zainul Hakim (A Different View), Felix Elmer Peter John Remek (Pak, Aman Nak Pergi Sekolah) and Lenathannimalai Srinivasan (Gogu and the Memories of 7 Trees).
Chief Executive Officer of Finas Md Nasir Ibrahim said the funds under the Digital Content Fund (DKD) (Film Sector) aim to boost the economy of the creative industry in the country by increasing employment opportunities for the community and young employees through creative work, in addition to stimulating the creativity of activists through the exploration of ideas and works.
“DKD is a continuous effort from Finas with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) in advancing the country’s film and creative industry sector by offering an injection of funds to the artists of the country,” he told the media after the ceremony of handing over the letter agreeing to receive the funds at the building Finas here tonight.
He said DKD (Film Sector) is aimed at young employees to encourage the production of quality short films and open to all genres that have commercial value for participation in domestic and foreign competitions or festivals.
“We hope that the distribution of funds under the DKD will help rebuild the creative industry as well as open up more job opportunities, especially for artists in the homeland who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
