Seoul built the second largest Ferris wheel in the world

SEOUL: The world’s second-largest Ferris wheel will be built along the Han River in Seoul’s western district starting June 2025, the Seoul metropolitan government said on Wednesday.

The Seoul Ring, 180 meters in diameter, will be built at the Sangam-dong theme park and offer attractive views of the capital, reported Yonhap .

It will be the second largest Ferris wheel after Ain Dubai, the tallest and largest observation wheel in the world.

The futuristic structure will have 36 cabins, each capable of accommodating 25 passengers.

The tourist attraction can also accommodate around 1,747 people per hour and up to 11,792 people per day.

The 400 billion won (US$304 million) project will be proposed under a build-transfer-operate (BTO) scheme.

Construction of the landmark is expected to begin in June 2025, with full completion by December 2027.

Seoul Ring is expected to attract 3.5 million tourists annually, according to city government official Hong Sun-ki.

The local government intends to promote the Seoul Ring which uses 100 percent renewable energy, as a landmark of environmentally friendly policies.
