Selangor sultan decrees state flag to fly at half-mast for late Queen Elizabeth II
State exco orders state departments, agencies to do the same, says state secretary
KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has decreed for the state flag to be flown at half-mast from Saturday to the following Monday to honour the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
State secretary Datuk Haris Kasim said in a statement that this move also honours the good relationship between Sultan Sharafuddin and the Queen.
Haris added that in line with the sultan’s decree, the state exco has ordered state departments and agencies to fly the Selangor flag at half-mast.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96 and her funeral is planned for September 19.
She had a record-breaking seven decades on the throne, her son Charles immediately taking over as king of the United Kingdom and 14 other realms.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Prince Philip at the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.
