Selangor state govt intensifies tourism efforts
Two new campaigns are being launched to promote tourism within the state
IN an effort to boost and regenerate domestic tourism post-pandemic, the Selangor state government through Tourism Selangor has launched two new campaigns, “Nak Bercuti, Pusing Selangor Dulu” and “Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!” to promote destinations within the state.
At the Open Day programme held at Resort Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel today, Hee Loy Sian, the Selangor State Tourism, Environment and Green Technology exco said in a speech, “We all know that the tourism industry is one of the important contributors to the country’s economic growth.
In 2019, the tourism industry recorded a contribution of 15.9% to the gross domestic product (GDP) with a value of RM240.2 billion.”
“I believe that despite the efforts to end the Covid-19 epidemic, we can regenerate the national tourism industry by boosting domestic and international tourism activities after the national borders were re-opened last April.
“The state government is aware that a dynamic and strategic direction in reviving the tourism industry is needed.
“Therefore, I am confident that through the First Selangor Plan initiated by the state government, we will be able to guarantee the survival of the state’s tourism industry and put Selangor on the map as the selected tourism destination on a global level,” he added.
Tourism Selangor is Selangor’s official tourism agency established to increase the number of local and international tourists by developing the known as well as the undiscovered beauty within the state.
The agency has taken numerous initiatives to achieve this such as organising local and international campaigns, events, overseas tourism trade missions, local roadshows, and others.
The Open Day programme today was held alongside a Media Appreciation Dinner to “recognise the accomplishments and contributions of fellow media practitioners who assisted in promoting the tourism industry in Selangor.”
Hee commented that “the commitment demonstrated by media partners is crucial to the success of the tourism industry, particularly in preparation for the endemic transition phase.
Throughout 2021 and 2022, our media partners have provided extensive media coverage to promote State government aid initiatives, promotional campaigns, event planning, and tourism programmes.”
More than 150 media practitioners, including journalists, editors, writers, and bloggers registered for the event which ran all day.
The agency, in a show of support, will be giving out awards in recognition of the efforts taken by local media to promote local tourism.
Azrul Shah Mohamad, chief executive officer of Tourism Selangor, stated, “we are introducing 27 new categories of awards and recognition to be presented to our media friends. During the assessment session, both the quantity and quality of the media’s coverage are considered.”
Best Media Coverage, Best Travelog Video, Best Travel Magazine, Best Journalist, Best Social Media Content, and Best Television Program were just a few of the categories and awards presented this year.
Tourism Selangor has selected the Resort Taman Eko Rimba in Rawang as the venue for programmes introducing eco-tourism-based tourist attractions and activities like glamping, jungle trekking, ATV, kayaking, and many more.
