Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Azam Baki has confirmed that former Astro chief executive Datuk Rohana Rozhan has returned to the government US$10 million allegedly stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
KUALA LUMPUR: The former Chief Executive Officer of Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad, Datuk Rohana Rozhan has returned US$10 million ((RM44.26 million) and assets linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund to the Malaysian government.
Sources have revealed that all the money, including the assets, was returned to the government last year after the MACC investigation was completed.
According to sources, the investigation found that Rohana had no knowledge of the source of funds linked to the misappropriation of 1MDB funds sent by former Goldman Sachs Inc partner Tim Leissner.
Accordingly, Rohana has voluntarily returned the entire amount of money and assets to the Malaysian government.
As such, said the source, the investigation involving Rohana in relation to the 1MDB fund has been completed and there will be no further legal action against him.
MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the return of the US$10 million when contacted.
To date, the total amount of 1MDB assets that have been successfully returned is as much as RM28.93 billion, which is approximately 70 percent.
On Thursday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Legal and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said in a written reply in Parliament said the Attorney General’s Department had no information on whether Rohana had returned US$10 million to the government .
She answered a question from Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) who had previously asked the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to state whether Rohana had returned the money to the Government.
