Replica of Sudirman’s longest Jalur Gemilang shirt on display in conjunction with the National Month
KUALA LUMPUR: The replica of the longest Malaysian flag shirt ever worn by the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad, can now be seen up close at the Fahrenheit88 shopping center here, on display for the public to see in conjunction with National Month.
A replica of the iconic shirt was placed at the exhibition ‘Waris Sudir: Tribute to Asia’s No. 1 Entertainer’, which took place on the second level of the shopping center.
The director of the National Archives Division of the National Archives of Malaysia, Hanizah Jonoh, said that the 120 meter long replica of the shirt was once worn by the singer while performing at the Closing Ceremony of the 15th SEA Games on 31 August 1989 at the Merdeka Stadium.
“The original shirt (the longest Malaysian flag) is in the custody of the National Archives but is not in a suitable condition to be brought and displayed to the public for now.
“So Fahrenheit88 made a replica with a similar size and material to give the public a chance to see this iconic shirt up close,” he told Bernama at the exhibition’s opening ceremony here today.
The exhibition was officiated by the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah who also visited over 60 personal collections of the talented entertainer.
Among the other collections on display are some actual shirts that were once worn when performing, songket shirts during photography sessions, hats, skirts and album covers.
Hanizah said that through the exhibition, the famous singer could be raised as a patriotic icon of the country as he proved to have a high spirit of patriotism which he often expressed when performing.
In addition, he said, the exhibition is also expected to bring back the glory days of the deceased among fans and the younger generation as well as foster patriotic spirit among the community.
The inaugural exhibition was held from last Friday until September 30 in conjunction with the 65th National Day celebration.
