Raya abroad: Try to bring the excitement from Malaysia

Malaysian students in Egypt work together to ensure that the atmosphere of Syawal, like in the homeland, can be felt.

KUALA LUMPUR: IN some countries, the excitement of Ramadan is felt and celebrated more than Syawal.

For Malaysian students in Egypt, even though they are used to the situation, they still miss the excitement of Aidilfitri in Malaysia.

Year 4 student, Mansurah University of Egypt, Yusrin Darwisha Yahya informed, Ramadan in Egypt is very lively, even more lively than Syawal in Malaysia.

“They liven up Ramadan more than Syawal, maybe because of the enjoyment of worship.

“As soon as Ramadan enters, they will decorate their homes. During suhoor, there will be people knocking on the door and waking them up for suhoor.

“Sometimes we can’t sleep because at 12 midnight there are people waking up for suhoor. It just so happens that dawn here is around 3 am, so we usually don’t sleep, we go to sleep after dawn,” she .

Thus, they work together to ensure that the atmosphere of Syawal, like in the homeland, can be felt.

“For Hari Raya, we only have each other, so we will share the housework. If I make peanut sauce at home, the others can cook lodeh, rendang and other dishes.

“Often we will cook the night before the banquet. We will choose a special location for the banquet to be held.

“Gathering while playing Raya songs, to a certain extent you can also get the Raya atmosphere. In short, the Raya atmosphere can only be felt when you are among the Malays.
