Ras Adiba appointed SEAMEO Honorary Ambassador SEN

MELAKA: Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi was appointed as an Honorary Ambassador for the Regional Center of the Organization of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education in the field of Special Education (SEAMEO SEN).

The recognition was given at the 10th SEAMEO SEN Governing Board Meeting yesterday, which provides educational development for parties directly involved in special education in the Southeast Asian region.

Ras Adiba, who is also the Chairman of the Malaysian National News Organisation, said the appointment was an honor for her and the disabled community in the country.

“I am actually so moved and did not expect this appointment. It is a great honor for me. I hope that with this appointment, our country can together with other Southeast Asian countries unite to ensure that there is no discrimination against children with special needs, ” she said.

She said this to reporters at the SEAMEO SEN Celebration Dinner here last night, which was also attended by SEAMEO SEN Malaysia Director Dr Hanani Harun Rasit and SEAMEO Secretariat Director Dr Erthel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela.

Ras Adiba also said that among the things she fought for with SEAMEO SEN included the aspect of school learning with parents and teachers being given full support.

“We are already in 2022 and should move forward to ensure the quality of learning for these special children is at the best level,” she said.

She said the appointment would also give him a greater opportunity to understand the needs of children with special needs, especially in education.

“I myself have an autistic child and I still have a lot to learn to understand and support him including his other friends.

“Of course it’s something that’s a little sensitive for me because I’m still trying to learn to understand him because he’s in a world that’s different from us in terms of thinking, wanting and wanting,” she said.
