Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy in sport will never be forgotten – Wayne Rooney
Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney insists Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy in England will never be forgotten.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96.
Rooney, who is the England national team’s all-time record goalscorer with 53 goals from 120 appearances, admitted the monarch’s departure led to a sad day for England and its colonies but insisted everything Queen Elizabeth II had poured into the country’s sport was not will never be forgotten.
The DC United manager said: “It’s a sad day for everyone, especially in England.
“But around the world, the legacy the Queen has left behind is extraordinary.
“So, it was a very sad and surprising day yesterday before we got confirmation of the news.
“I have met many of the royal family but never had the chance to meet the Queen.
“But it is very clear that all his efforts and all that he has done throughout his life and how he ruled our country will never be forgotten,” he said.
